Napoleon charcoal and smoker tray – turn your gas grill into a charcoal grill
A gas grill is fast and convenient, but sometimes you want the feel and classic flavour of charcoal grilling, which you never get from a pure gas grill. With the Napoleon charcoal tray you can turn your Napoleon gas grill into a charcoal grill, and add smoky aroma to the food whenever you like.
Please note: This product is only available in Norway.
The charcoal tray is made of solid cast iron and has 54 holes in the bottom for good air and heat flow. Charcoal or briquettes get even and powerful heat, suitable for traditional grilling. In one corner there is a built-in pocket for wood chips. Add the wood of your choice and give meat, fish or vegetables a distinctive smoky flavour.

How to use the charcoal tray in a Napoleon gas grill
- Place charcoal or briquettes on the tray.
- Remove the cooking grids and Sear Plates.
- Place the tray directly on the burners.
- Light the burners until the coals glow.
- Turn off the gas, put the cooking grids back and continue grilling over glowing coals.
If you want a smoky flavour, follow the same steps and fill the small pocket with wood chips. As the chips heat up, aromatic smoke is released and lifts the flavour.

Does the charcoal tray fit my Napoleon gas grill?
It fits all Napoleon gas grills except the TravelQ series.
How do I light the charcoal?
Place the tray with charcoal directly on the burners and light the gas. When the coals glow, turn off the gas, put the cooking grids back and continue grilling over the coals.
Can I smoke food with it?
Yes. Fill the pocket in the corner of the tray with wood chips. As the chips heat up, they give off smoke and smoky flavour.
How big is the charcoal tray?
It measures 38.6 × 36.7 × 4.8 cm and is made of cast iron.
