Advanced hop products are hop extracts and liquid hops from BarthHaas that replace or complement hop pellets in the brewery. Here you will find Spectrum for dry hopping in 1 kg, Flex bittering extract in 2 kg, Tetrahop Gold for foam and light protection, and HopAid Antifoam as a foam control agent during fermentation.

How to choose the right hop product

Aroma and dry hopping: Spectrum is liquid and made of 100 % hops with no additives. It dissolves completely in cold beer. According to BarthHaas this gives higher yield, more saleable beer and less cleaning than dry hopping with pellets. Spectrum is available as Citra, Mosaic, Cascade and El Dorado.
Bitterness in the boil: Flex is a CO2 hop extract with a high alpha acid concentration and no solids. It is poured straight into the kettle at the start of the boil. Hop additions in wort and whirlpool can be cut considerably compared with pellets, and losses to vegetal matter are almost eliminated.
Foam and light protection: Tetrahop Gold improves and stabilises the foam, adds bitterness and protects beer in clear glass against light-struck off-flavours. It is added after fermentation, before filtration, and partly replaces regular bittering hops.
Foam control: HopAid Antifoam in 2.25 kg is an antifoam agent made from extracted hops, used during fermentation.

Frequently asked questions about hop extract

What is the difference between Spectrum and hop pellets?

Spectrum is liquid hops with no additives that dissolve completely in cold beer. Pellets are compressed hops that leave sediment and beer losses in the tank. With Spectrum you avoid the hop debris after dry hopping.

When is Flex added?

Flex is poured straight into the kettle at the start of the boil. It contains no solids, so you get consistent bitterness and lower whirlpool losses.

Why use Tetrahop Gold in beer packaged in clear glass?

Light can cause off-flavours in beer in clear glass. Tetrahop Gold protects against this, and also adds bitterness and gives a more stable foam. It is added after fermentation and before filtration.
