Fresh Wort Kits – real wort, ready to ferment
A Fresh Wort Kit is 20 litres of brewery-made, water-adjusted wort that you pour straight into your fermenter. You add the yeast that comes with the kit and skip mashing, boiling and adding water. One kit gives about 40 bottles of 0.5 litres. Here you will find around 40 kits, from pilsner and kölsch to IPA, stout and Christmas beer.
Why choose a 20L Fresh Wort Kit?
- 100% real wort – mashed, boiled and hopped at a brewery, not extract that needs diluting.
- Brewed at a brewery – the wort is brewed by the Norwegian breweries Austmann and Amundsen, among others, and filled into bag-in-box.
- Saves time – ready in minutes instead of a full brew day.
- The right volume – 20 litres of wort gives about 40 bottles of 0.5 litres or 60 of 0.33 litres.

How it works
- Clean and sanitise the fermenter.
- Pour the wort from the kit straight into the fermenter. With a Fresh Wort Kit Dispense Clip the bag can empty itself.
- Add the yeast supplied with the kit.
- Fit the airlock and let the beer ferment, usually for 14 days.
- Bottle or keg, and carbonate.
How to choose the right Fresh Wort Kit
Pick a beer style first, then check the fermentation temperature. Without temperature control, an ale kit at 18–20 °C or a kit with NovaLager or kveik is the easiest choice.
| Kit | Style | ABV | Yeast | Fermentation |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Match Pilsen | Pilsner | 4.9% | NovaLager | 14 days, 18 °C |
| Summer Kölsch | Kölsch | 4.6% | K-97 | 14 days, 18–20 °C |
| Surfer Golden Ale | Golden ale | 4.4% | US-05 | 14 days, 20 °C |
| Austmann Tre Gamle Damer | Belgian pale ale | 5.5% | BE-256 | 14 days, 20 °C |
| Ægir IPA | IPA | 6.5% | FermoAle AY4 | 14 days, 20 °C |
| Amundsen Apocalyptic Thunder Juice | Hazy IPA | 6.5% | S-04 | 14 days, 20 °C |
| Amundsen Helles Good Lager | Helles | 5.0% | Fermolager W | 21 days, 12 °C |
| Pilsner Lite | Low-carb pilsner | 5.3% | High Voltage kveik | 3 days, 31–35 °C |
What sets the wort apart
- Water-adjusted and ready: Beer is 90–95% water, and the right water adjustment can be the difference between a decent beer and an excellent one. You add no water yourself, which avoids poor water adjustment and contamination from non-sterile water.
- Yeast nutrient and fining agent: Added during the boil at the brewery, for a healthy fermentation and clearer beer.
- Many recipes: Kits from Austmann, Amundsen, Ægir and Monkey Brew, and the Project Brew series with a clone of Paulaner Weissbier, among others.
Brew gluten-reduced beer with a Fresh Wort Kit
To brew a gluten-reduced beer, combine a Fresh Wort Kit with WLE4000 Clarity Ferm. Add one bottle to the fermenter when you pitch the yeast. Clarity Ferm reduces chill haze and breaks down gluten proteins from barley and wheat during fermentation. Used correctly, it can bring the gluten content below the threshold for gluten-free, but the beer is still brewed with barley and wheat malt. Read more in our blog post on gluten-reduced beer (in Norwegian).
Equipment to get started
The Basic Starter Kit includes a 33-litre fermenter, airlock, tap with bottle filler, hydrometer, hand capper, caps, carbonation drops, and cleaning and sanitising agents. Easy Brew comes with 48 PET bottles of 0.5 litres with screw caps instead. Read more about the equipment in our blog post (in Norwegian).
Frequently asked questions about Fresh Wort Kits
What is a Fresh Wort Kit?
A Fresh Wort Kit is finished wort – mashed, boiled and hopped at a brewery – supplied in a bag-in-box. You pour the wort into the fermenter and add yeast.
Is yeast included in a Fresh Wort Kit?
Yes. The kits contain wort, yeast and instructions. Some kits also include hops for dry hopping or an essence that is added after fermentation, such as Sunset Sipper IPA and Blanc Wheat.
How long does it take to brew beer with a Fresh Wort Kit?
The brewing itself takes a few minutes. Most ale kits ferment for 14 days at 18–20 °C, and lagers for three weeks at 12–16 °C. Kveik kits such as Pilsner Lite and Sunrush Pale Ale ferment in three days at 31–35 °C.
Do I need temperature control?
Ale kits fermented at 18–20 °C will do fine in a room with a stable temperature. Lagers fermented at 12 °C, and kveik at 31–35 °C, need cooling or heating. See our range of fermentation temperature control.
What is the difference between a Fresh Wort Kit, an extract kit and an all-grain kit?
A Fresh Wort Kit is finished wort that only needs fermenting. An extract kit is concentrated wort that you dilute with water. An all-grain kit contains malt, hops and yeast, and you mash and boil yourself.
