Brewery cleaning – CIP, sanitising and beer line cleaning

Brewery cleaning covers detergents and sanitisers in bulk packs and equipment for cleaning brewhouses, fermentation tanks, beer lines and kegs. Here you will find alkaline and acid CIP chemicals from Ecolab, Chemipro and Five Star Chemicals, beer line cleaners, KeyKeg cleaning kegs, CIP spray balls and nitrile gloves.

How to choose a cleaning agent

Alkaline cleaning of tanks and brewhouse: PBW in 22.7 kg is a powerful alkaline, non-caustic cleaner that removes organic matter and protein residue. Mip MA CIP from Ecolab in 24 kg contains sodium hydroxide and removes baked-on proteins, starch and hop residue.
High-foam acid sanitiser: Star San in 3.8 litres and Chemipro San in 5 litres are high-foaming, acid-based sanitisers. Chemipro San is dosed at 15–25 ml per 10 litres.
Low-foam acid sanitiser for CIP: Chemipro CIP in 5 litres is dosed at 25–40 ml per 10 litres with a 3-minute contact time and rinsed with clean water. Acid-based products are not suitable for soft metals.
Sanitising vessels and surfaces: TP 990 from Ecolab in 20 kg is a mildly alkaline, foaming disinfectant. Sirafan Speed is a ready-to-use, no-rinse, alcohol-based rapid disinfectant.
Beer lines: Pipeline Gold Professional is a chlorine-free beer line cleaner, used as a 5 % solution for monthly cleaning. Ansep BLC from Ecolab is another beer line cleaner.

Cleaning equipment

KeyKeg cleaning keg: Mini Jolly 5 L in 304 stainless steel from AEB, with or without a KeyKeg cleaning spear. A cleaning adapter connects the KeyKeg coupler to a Sankey S system.
CIP spray ball: rotating spray ball with 1.5" Tri-Clamp in 25 and 52 mm. The larger one needs a powerful pump.
CIP system: a CIP system for 1–3 tanks from EnoBeer, made to order, that lets you reuse the solutions.
Gloves: Black Pearl nitrile gloves, 100 per box in Large and XL.

Frequently asked questions about brewery cleaning

Why are some cleaning agents shipped only on pallets?

Ansep BLC, Pipeline Gold Professional, Mip MA and TP 990 are classified as dangerous goods and exceed the limited quantity threshold, so they must be shipped on a pallet.

What is the difference between alkaline and acid cleaning?

Alkaline products such as PBW and Mip MA dissolve organic matter such as proteins and hop residue. Acid products such as Star San and Chemipro CIP sanitise and remove scale and beer stone. Many breweries use both in their CIP routine.
