How to choose the right hoses and fittings for your brewery
Tanks, pumps and pipework: Tri-Clamp is the standard for hygienic, thread-free fittings that are easy to strip down. A 1.5" Tri-Clamp clamp with gasket is the best-selling Tri-Clamp part.
Equipment with dairy fittings: Tanks and pumps with DIN 11851 connect to Tri-Clamp with adapters in DN20–DN50.
Threaded valves and nipples: NPT and BSP have different thread forms and do not seal against each other. Check the standard before ordering, for example a 1/2" NPT quick coupler.
Dispense, CO2 and drinking water: John Guest push-fit needs no tools and is sized by the outside diameter of the tube, from 3/16" to 1/2". The 5/16" union connector is one of the best sellers.
Hose material: Silicone hose is rated up to 200 °C and handles hot wort, while PVC hose is rated up to 60 °C. For beer and gas with push-fit, use 3/8" LLDPE tubing.

Frequently asked questions about hoses and fittings
What is the difference between NPT and BSP?
NPT is the American pipe thread and BSP the British one. The thread angle differs, so an NPT part will not seal against a BSP part even when the nominal size is the same. Use an adapter when your equipment mixes standards.
Which hose can handle hot wort?
The silicone hoses are rated from −60 to +200 °C, and the largest sizes from −50 to +200 °C. PVC hose is rated up to 60 °C and suits cold liquids. 12 mm silicone hose is sold by the metre.
Can John Guest fittings be used for both beer and CO2?
Yes. The fittings are food grade and designed for liquids and gases under pressure. They are used in beer lines, CO2 and N2 lines and for drinking water.
