Brewing equipment – mash bags, hop filters, siphons, pumps and wort chillers
Here you will find the accessories that make brew day easier, whether you brew in a pot or on an all-in-one system: mash bags and hop bags, hop filters, auto-siphons, mash paddles, wort chillers, pumps, heat sources and filters. Brands include Fermtech, Project Brew, Grainfather, Rover Pompe, Blichmann, Speidel and The Brew Bag. The brewing systems themselves are under brewing systems, and complete packages under starter kits.
Equipment through brew day
- Mashing: mash bags from 46 x 51 cm to 74 x 74 cm and The Brew Bag for 35 and 50 litre kettles let you brew in a bag (BIAB) in an ordinary pot. Stir with a 60 cm stainless steel mash paddle, Speidel's wooden paddle or Brewtools paddles. The Grainfather Sparge Water Heater (18 litres) heats the sparge water.
- Boil and hops: the Project Brew Hop Spider V3 is a 304 stainless hop filter with 600 micron mesh, 15 cm across and 35 cm tall. Nylon hop bags keep hops together in the kettle or fermenter.
- Chilling: the Project Brew Wort Chiller is a copper counterflow chiller for 20–200 litre batches that cools the wort while it is pumped to the fermenter. An 8.8 metre immersion chiller with a 3/8" John Guest fitting and the ZChiller are also available.
- Transfers: the Fermtech auto-siphon with 3/8" or 1/2" cane moves beer from fermenter to bottling bucket or keg, max 49 °C. The BrewSSSiphon is a stainless steel auto-siphon. The Rover Novax 20 B pump moves 1,700 litres per hour, handles up to 95 °C and runs in both directions. The Novax 30 B moves 5,000 litres per hour.
- Heat and filtration: a 6.5 kW gas burner with flame failure device, a 3500 W Hendi induction hob, a Speidel immersion heater and a 1.5" Tri-Clamp inline filter with 50 and 100 mesh inserts.
Frequently asked questions about brewing equipment
What do I need to brew in a bag (BIAB)?
BIAB needs a kettle, a mash bag that fits it, a heat source and a wort chiller. The bag of grain is lifted out after the mash and the wort is boiled in the same kettle.
What is the difference between an auto-siphon and a regular siphon?
An auto-siphon has a built-in pump that starts the flow with one stroke, so you do not need to suck on the hose. That means less risk of infection and less oxygen pickup.
Counterflow or immersion chiller?
An immersion chiller sits in the kettle and cools all the wort at once. A counterflow chiller cools the wort as it is pumped or drained to the fermenter and suits larger batches.
Which pump can handle hot wort?
The Rover Novax 20 B is food-grade and handles liquids up to 95 °C. It is built for continuous duty and can pump in both directions.
