Winexpert wine kits – four ranges from house wine to Private Reserve

Winexpert makes wine kits with grape must and concentrate from wine regions in Italy, Chile, Australia, California and elsewhere. The ranges run from On The House, ready after 4 weeks, to Private Reserve with 14 litres of grape must and 8 weeks of fermentation. Every kit makes about 23 litres of finished wine, around 30 bottles, and comes with step-by-step instructions.

The wines in each range

On The House: Cabernet Sauvignon Style, Merlot Style, Pinot Noir Style, Chardonnay Style, Sauvignon Blanc Style and Riesling Style. Merlot Style is an easy first red wine kit.
Classic: Reds such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec and Diablo Rojo from Chile, Sangiovese from Italy, Tempranillo from Spain and Pinot Noir from California. Whites and rosé such as Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio, Sauvignon Blanc and White Zinfandel Rosé.
Reserve: Amarone Style from Italy, Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay from Australia, Pinot Noir from Chile, Pinot Grigio, Riesling and Grenache Rosé.
Private Reserve: Merlot from Stag's Leap, Chardonnay from Sonoma Dry Creek Valley, and reds with grape skins such as Amarone Style, Super Tuscan, Zinfandel Lodi Old Vines and Cabernet Sauvignon Lodi Ranch 11.

Each product page lists sweetness, body, oak and alcohol, for example 13% for Classic Sangiovese and 14% for Private Reserve Amarone Style.

Getting started

If you brew beer, you probably have most of the equipment already. If you are new, the winemaking starter kit has fermenters, a hydrometer, a degasser and a siphon. You will also need bottles, corks and a corker from winemaking equipment.

For quick, affordable wine, On The House or Classic are ready after 4 weeks. For more body and complexity, Reserve and Private Reserve give more grape must and a longer fermentation.

What does "with grape skins" mean?

The kit includes crushed grape skins that go into the must during fermentation. They give the red wine more colour, tannin and structure, as in traditional red winemaking.
