Description

Sodium Benzoate 500g (E211)

Sodium benzoate is an effective preservative that prevents undesirable fermentation, mold, and bacterial growth in sugary products. It is often used in soft drinks, juices, dressings, ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise, caviar, tomato paste, and fruit porridges.

This makes sodium benzoate particularly useful in products that are not heated after the addition of sugar, or that are to be stored for a long time. The agent works best in solutions with low pH (below 4.5), and is therefore recommended in combination with citric acid or other acids if needed.

Usage Tips:

  • Typical dose: 0.05–0.1% (0.5–1.0 g per liter).
  • There are maximum limits depending on the product type. Always remember to check current regulations for the food product in which it is to be used.
  • Dissolve sodium benzoate in a small amount of warm water before adding for even distribution.
  • Add after cooling and under good hygiene, before bottling.
  • Sodium benzoate works best in acidic liquid (pH < 4.5); adjust with citric acid if necessary.
  • Feel free to combine with potassium sorbate (E 202) against mold and fermentation.
  • Label products as "Contains E 211" for commercial production.
  • Avoid mixing sodium benzoate with vitamin C and artificial colorings.
