Description
Small Batch for Mead and Kombucha
Small Batch for Mead and Kombucha is a simple and practical starter kit for fermenting on a small scale. The kit suits small test batches, experimenting with recipes, or getting started without a lot of equipment.
The 3.1-litre preserving jar gives you a clear fermentation vessel that makes it easy to follow the process. The jar suits small batches of mead, kombucha and other fermented products, and its size fits well on the kitchen counter, in a cupboard or in the fridge.
The kit also includes a mini airlock for controlled fermentation. The airlock releases CO₂ from the fermentation while helping to protect the contents from unwanted air and contaminants. It is only about 3.8 cm tall, which makes it practical where space is limited.
The self-adhesive thermometer makes it easy to keep an eye on the fermentation temperature. During active fermentation the temperature in the vessel can rise above room temperature, so this is a simple and useful way to follow conditions along the way.
When fermentation is finished, the mini auto-siphon makes it easier to transfer the liquid to bottles or another vessel. The removable tip helps reduce the amount of sediment carried over during transfer.
Important for mead: Mead can have a vigorous primary fermentation, especially at the start. We therefore recommend using a blow-off tube on the airlock and a little less than 3 litres at a time, so there is extra headspace in the jar. If the vessel is too full and fermentation is active, it can blow out through the airlock.
The kit contains
- 3.1 L fermentation jar with lid
- Auto-siphon Mini with tubing
- Self-adhesive thermometer
- Mini airlock for fermentation
- Gasket for the airlock
