How to choose hop pellets
Bitterness: High-alpha varieties give the most bitterness per gram. Magnum (14.1%), Warrior (15.4%) and Columbus (15%) are typical bittering hops.
Pilsner and lager: Low-alpha European noble varieties such as Saaz (3.5%), Hallertau Mittelfrüh (4.2%), Tettnanger and Spalter Select.
British beers:East Kent Golding, Fuggle, Challenger and Target for bitter, ESB, porter and stout.
IPA and pale ale:Citra gives citrus, tropical fruit, lime and grapefruit, and is often combined with Mosaic, Simcoe, Galaxy and Amarillo.

Frequently asked questions about hop pellets
What are T-90 hop pellets?
T-90 are standard pellets made by milling hop cones to a powder and pressing them into pellets. They can be used for bitterness, flavour and aroma at every stage of brewing, from the boil to dry hopping.
What do the percentage and the year in the product name mean?
The percentage is the alpha acid content of the lot, which you use to calculate bitterness (IBU). The year is the harvest year.
How long do hop pellets keep?
Normally five years from the production date, when stored correctly. Hops grown in 2024 usually have a 2025 production date and keep until 2030. Store hops cold, ideally in the freezer, and seal opened bags tightly.
Why is it called India Pale Ale?
Hops have natural antiseptic properties. In the past, a generous amount of hops made it possible to ship beer over long distances, including to India, without it turning sour. That is part of the story behind the name.
Are hop pellets available in larger packs?
Yes. Most varieties also come in 5 kg packs under hops 5 kg. The professional range is only available in Norway.
