Description

1.5" Tri-Clamp Blow-Off Tube with Thermowell – Norcal

This is a blow-off tube with an integrated thermowell from Norcal Brewing Solutions in the USA. It mounts on a 1.5" Tri-Clamp port on the fermenter. The tube leads CO2 and foam out through a blow-off hose, and the thermowell lets you measure the temperature deep in the wort through the same port. It suits brewers who want temperature control during fermentation without using a separate port for the probe.

Features

  • Made from 304 stainless steel
  • The thermowell is 35.5 cm long, long enough to reach well down into the wort where you want to measure the temperature
  • The tube has a 3/8" outer diameter and a 1/4" (6.35 mm) inner diameter. It fits, for example, the probe of the Inkbird WIFI temperature controller
  • 1.5" Tri-Clamp clamp and gasket sold separately

Frequently asked questions about the blow-off tube with thermowell

Which temperature probes fit the thermowell?

The probe of the Inkbird WIFI temperature controller fits. The tube has a 3/8" outer diameter and a 1/4" (6.35 mm) inner diameter.

Are the clamp and gasket included?

No. You also need a 1.5" Tri-Clamp clamp and a 1.5" Tri-Clamp gasket.

Why is temperature control so important during fermentation?

Yeast generates its own heat when fermentation is at its most vigorous. Too high a temperature gives more esters and fusel alcohols, so a stable temperature matters more than most people think.

What should I watch out for when cold crashing?

When the beer is chilled, the gas in the tank contracts. Liquid from the blow-off hose can then be sucked back into the beer. Lift the hose out of the liquid or use a solution that prevents suck-back before you chill.
