What is a sample valve used for?

You draw a small sample to measure gravity with a hydrometer or to taste the beer along the way. The tank stays closed, so the risk of oxygen pick-up and infection is lower than if you open the lid.

Do I need a clamp and gasket?

Yes. A Tri-Clamp connection consists of two ferrules, a gasket between them and a clamp around them. The 34 mm clamp and gasket are sold separately.

Is the valve available with 1.5" Tri-Clamp?

Yes. If your tank has 1.5" Tri-Clamp ports, choose the 1.5" Tri-Clamp sample valve.
