Description

Steam Condenser for Grainfather G40 & G70

An efficient steam condenser for the Grainfather G40 and G70, with custom tri-clamp components for easy assembly and fewer parts to disassemble for faster cleaning.

A steam condenser is a relatively inexpensive and simple tool that eliminates the problem of a brewhouse full of steam, and a great alternative to an exhaust system with a fan and many pipes hanging from the ceiling. Condensation of steam is also common practice in most breweries.

The steam condenser is designed so that cold water is sprayed using a full cone nozzle at a 30-degree angle directly onto the steam to condense it into water, which then drains from the bottom of the condenser, either into a drain or a bucket. The unit uses approximately 0.6 liters per minute at 4 bar water pressure.

When the steam condenses inside the unit, it contracts, creating a vacuum inside the brewing machine and drawing steam into the unit. This ensures that all steam and DMS are evacuated.

The lid comes with a clamp. There is no need to use the clamp during brewing, as the lid fits snugly and securely. Without the clamp, it is also easy to lift the lid when adding hops along the way.

Instructions:

  1. We recommend attaching the condenser after the foam from the hot break has settled. Feel free to use anti-foam, a defoaming agent.
  2. Enter "Power Control Mode" and reduce the boil power. We recommend setting the power to 60%, and adjusting up/down as needed (tested with Grainfather G70). 60% power gives a nice rolling boil, while also saving energy.
  3. Attach the condenser, connected to cold water at the top and a 20mm silicone hose at the bottom to direct the water to a drain or bucket.
  4. It is important that the water can flow freely downwards, so that no resistance is created inside the condenser. The open end of the hose must not be submerged in water.
  5. To add hops and other ingredients along the way, simply lift the lid and add what you want.

By boiling at reduced power, evaporation will also be reduced proportionally to the reduction in boil power. You should therefore compensate for lower evaporation by reducing the amount of sparge water. For example, with a 50-liter boil volume, at 60% power, you will achieve 3 liters of evaporation instead of 5 liters at approx. 10% evaporation per hour.

Water connection:

The steam condenser comes with a 1/2" NPT connection at the top, so you are free to choose what you want to use to connect to water. You can mount, for example, a hose nipple or a Gardena quick connector.
