Filling of food-grade CO2 in Trondheim

As the first operator in Norway, since 2017 we have had the pleasure of offering food-grade CO2 filling to consumers – in accordance with the Norwegian Food Safety Authority's requirements for quality, additives, and labelling. Both the CO2 itself and the cylinders we fill from are food-grade, so you avoid the risks associated with technical CO2. Purity is 99.9%, which also means significantly less O2 than technical CO2 (industrial gas).

As a store that sells food ingredients and equipment for use in beer production, we are obliged to sell food-grade CO2. The cylinders will be marked with a dedicated label at each filling in accordance with traceability requirements.

If the beer is to be "traded," for example as samples, sales, or submitted for judging in competitions, the requirements in the Norwegian Food Safety Authority's notification are clear: this is the brewer's responsibility! The same requirements then apply to home brewers as to breweries.

This also means that we can now accept the filling of cylinders that previously contained technical CO2.

However, we still recommend "clean" cylinders, as cylinders with technical CO2 may have been filled from a container that previously may have experienced backflow of, for example, hydraulic oil in an industrial context.

We reserve the right to refuse the filling of cylinders that we believe do not appear to be in good condition, such as converted fire extinguishers.

PS! Empty cylinders should be stored with the valve closed to prevent oxygen and moisture from entering the cylinder, which will cause rust.
