Description
Grainfather G30 counterflow chiller – fast cooling of the wort after the boil
The counterflow chiller for the Grainfather G30 is used to cool the wort after the boil, before it is transferred to the fermenter. The chiller comes complete with hoses for water in and out, silicone hoses and a connection to the Grainfather, so it can be connected directly to the brewing system.
How a counterflow chiller works
In a counterflow chiller, the hot wort flows through an inner tube while cold water flows in the opposite direction on the outside. Because the wort and cooling water flow in opposite directions, the coldest wort always meets the coldest water, and heat is transferred efficiently. The G30 pump sends the wort through the chiller and on into the fermenter, so you cool and transfer in one operation.

Frequently asked questions about the Grainfather G30 counterflow chiller
Why should the wort be cooled quickly?
Fast cooling lets the wort reach a temperature where the yeast can be pitched sooner, and reduces the time the wort sits warm and exposed to infection. It is widely regarded as good brewing practice.
What comes with the chiller?
The chiller comes complete with hoses for water in and out, silicone hoses and a connection to the Grainfather.
How do I clean the counterflow chiller?
Rinse the chiller thoroughly right after use and clean it with a suitable brewing equipment cleaner. Sanitise before the next brew, since the wort passes through the chiller after the boil.
