1/2" Blow-off barb – hose barb for a blow-off hose in the lid
A 1/2" elbow-shaped hose barb for fitting a blow-off hose in the lid of your fermenter. During vigorous fermentation, foam and yeast can be forced upwards, and the blow-off hose then leads the foam and CO2 into a container instead of clogging the airlock. The barb is made from 304 stainless steel and comes with a silicone gasket. You need to drill a 21–22 mm hole in the lid to fit it.

How do I fit the blow-off barb?
Drill a 21–22 mm hole in the lid, insert the barb with the silicone gasket and tighten. Attach the hose to the barb and put the other end in a container of sanitizer or water.
When do I need a blow-off instead of an airlock?
When fermentation is vigorous and there is little headspace, for example with kveik at high temperature. The foam can then clog an ordinary airlock.
What should I watch out for when cold crashing?
When the beer is chilled, the air in the fermenter contracts and the liquid in the container can be sucked into the beer. Lift the hose out of the liquid before you chill.
