Kegs instead of bottles
With a keg, you wash one Cornelius keg instead of many bottles, and you get consistent carbonation from batch to batch. If the carbonation is off, just adjust the pressure up or down. The keg is easy to clean, especially with a Keg Washer. You can fill the keg straight from the fermenter without racking first. Use a Bouncer Filter on the hose to keep most of the sediment out of the keg.
Maintenance
Star San and similar acid-based sanitizers containing phosphoric acid can, over time, etch the surface and weaken the passive layer that protects the steel, even at low concentrations. The solution can stay in the keg for a few hours, but then rinse with clean water.

Frequently asked questions about the 9L AEB Cornelius keg
How big is the keg?
The keg holds 9 litres, is 37 cm tall and has a diameter of 22 cm.
How do I carbonate beer in the keg?
A simple and safe method is 1 bar for one week at 3–5 °C, with the gas connected the whole time. Do not fill above the gas tube.
Can Star San be left in the keg?
Acid-based products such as Star San can stay in the keg for a few hours but should then be rinsed out with clean water. Long contact can weaken the passive layer of the steel.
Which disconnects do I need?
The keg has ball lock posts, so you need ball lock disconnects for gas and beer. The post marked «in» is gas in.
