Description
Ekuanot Cryo Hops 25 g – concentrated lupulin with tropical fruit
Ekuanot Cryo Hops are concentrated lupulin from the American hop variety Ekuanot, formerly known as Equinox. The pellets give intense flavour and aroma of citrus, stone fruit, tropical fruit and wood, with a minimum of the vegetal flavour from the plant material. This lot has 20.8% alpha acid.
What are Cryo Hops?
The name comes from the Greek word "kryos", meaning frost. Cryo Hops® is a cryogenic hop processing technology that separates whole hop cones into two components: concentrated lupulin and bract. Each component is preserved at low temperatures in a nitrogen-rich environment throughout the process, from separation to pelleting.
Cryo Hops pellets are the concentrated lupulin of the hop, containing resins and aromatic oils. They are designed to give intense hop flavour and aroma, so brewers can dose large amounts of alpha acids and oils without adding astringent flavours or vegetative material. Cryo Hops can be used wherever regular hops are used, but are best suited to the whirlpool or hop stand and to dry hopping.
Benefits of Cryo hops
- Nearly double the resin content of traditional T-90 hop pellets
- Intense contribution of hop flavour and aroma
- Less grassy and vegetal character
- Less hop trub gives higher yield per batch and lower cost per litre of finished beer
About the Ekuanot variety
Ekuanot was bred by the Hop Breeding Company from Warrior and a wild hop, and was released as Equinox in 2014. BarthHaas describes the variety with grapefruit, lemongrass, mandarin, guava, lychee, mango, pineapple and passion fruit. It is often used in American pale ale and IPA, and works well as a single hop.
Dosage
As a starting point when developing or adjusting recipes, use 50% of the amount of regular pellets by weight. Cryo Hops are particularly suited to hop-driven beers such as IPA and NEIPA.

Frequently asked questions about Ekuanot Cryo Hops
How much Cryo Hops equals regular hops?
Count on roughly half the weight. 50 g of Cryo Hops gives about the same flavour as 100 g of regular pellets.
When should I use Cryo Hops?
Cryo Hops can be used wherever you use regular hops, but are best in the whirlpool or hop stand and for dry hopping. A hop stand is typically done at 70–90 °C for 10–30 minutes.
Is Ekuanot the same as Equinox?
Yes. The variety was released as Equinox in 2014, but was later renamed Ekuanot because of trademark issues.
How should I store Cryo Hops?
Cold, dark and airtight, preferably in the freezer. Stored correctly, hops keep for a long time.
