Frequently asked questions about the Erlenmeyer flask 2000 ml
How large a starter can I make in a 2 litre flask?
The starter needs air and room for foam. A 2 litre starter therefore needs a flask larger than 2 litres. For a full 2 litre starter, choose the 3000 or 5000 ml flask.
How do I make wort for the starter?
We recommend 100 g of light spray malt per litre of water, which gives an OG of about 1.040. Boil for 5–10 minutes and cool to below 25 °C before adding the yeast.
What do I close the flask with?
A cotton stopper lets air in but keeps dirt and bacteria out. The stopper can be sanitised wrapped in foil in the oven at 150 °C for about 15 minutes.
