Description
Erlenmeyer flask 3000 ml in borosilicate glass – for yeast starters
3-litre narrow-neck Erlenmeyer flask made of borosilicate glass. The flask is used for yeast starters, often together with a magnetic stirrer. A starter needs air above the liquid, so a 3-litre flask suits starters of up to approx. 2 litres.
Borosilicate glass is highly resistant to chemicals, high temperatures and temperature changes. The flask is made by VWR, a supplier of laboratory equipment to industry, research and healthcare.

Frequently asked questions about the 3000 ml Erlenmeyer flask
How big a starter can I make in a 3-litre flask?
The flask needs air above the starter. A 2-litre starter needs a flask larger than 2 litres, so 3 litres suits starters of up to approx. 2 litres.
How do I make wort for the starter?
100 g of light dry malt extract per litre of water gives an OG of approx. 1.040. Boil for 5–10 minutes, cool below 25 °C and pitch the yeast. Put the flask on a stir plate and leave it for at least 12 hours.
What fits in the neck?
The neck has an outer diameter of 50 mm. Many brewers use a cotton stopper or foil, so air can get in without anything falling into the flask.
