Frequently asked questions about the 0–25 % alcoholmeter
Can I measure the alcohol in beer or wine with the alcoholmeter?
No. The alcoholmeter only reads correctly in mixtures of alcohol and water. Sugar and other substances in beer and wine give a false reading. Measure OG and FG with a hydrometer instead and calculate ABV = (OG − FG) × 131.25.
At what temperature should I measure?
The alcoholmeter is calibrated at 15.6 °C. Measuring at another temperature makes the reading inaccurate.
What does Gay-Lussac mean?
Gay-Lussac is the scale for alcohol in percent by volume (% vol).
