Description

Grainfather G30v3 brewing system

The Grainfather G30v3 is the third generation of the popular G30 brewing system. It is a fully automatic all-in-one brewing system with a 30-litre capacity, designed for brewing craft beer at home. It suits both beginners and experienced brewers. The controller makes it easy to automate and program the system, and you can control it remotely from an iOS or Android app. With the GCAST Bluetooth WIFI Bridge, you can also control it over WIFI. You can set a time for heating the mash water so that it is ready when you get home from work.

With the Grainfather, you get mashing, sparging, boiling and efficient counterflow chilling in one unit. Brewing is faster, you get a high yield from the malt, and the risk of infection is reduced. The included counterflow chiller cools the wort and transfers it to the fermenter in a single step in just 10 minutes. The shorter the chilling time, the lower the risk of infection.

What is the difference between the G30v3 and the G30v2?

  • New perforated grain basket that makes the top plate and overflow pipe unnecessary
  • New automatic reset switch, so you no longer need to reach under the unit if the thermal fuse trips during brewing. The Auto reset also fits the G30v2, so you can fit it to an older unit.

Also see the Grainfather steam condenser, which lets you brew indoors without a powerful extractor.

Features

The Grainfather is electric and designed for indoor use. The heating element is controlled so that the right power is used at each stage of the brewing process. Some stages use lower power for accurate temperature control and to reduce the risk of scorching. When strong heating is needed, it can take as little as 20 minutes to reach boiling point.

  • PID control for accurate temperature control
  • Programmable step mashing
  • Delayed start for heating mash water
  • Waterproof graphic display
  • Can run in manual mode or with the app

Control box and app

The Connect Control Box has Bluetooth, so your phone can be used to control the unit remotely. The Grainfather Community app notifies you when it is time for the next step in the brewing process.

  • Import recipes as BeerXML files (requires iOS 9 or later)
  • Set your own boiling temperature for different altitudes
  • Switch between Celsius and Fahrenheit
  • Handy Grainfather calculators
  • Create your own recipes and share them

Pump

A 6 W, 1800 RPM magnetic drive brushless pump recirculates the wort through the grain for high yield during mashing. It also pumps hot wort through the counterflow chiller and cleaning solution through the system when cleaning. The pump is protected by a stainless steel cover that is easy to open for cleaning. A pump filter inside the Grainfather stops hops and grain from entering and blocking the pump.

Grain basket

The perforated stainless steel grain basket takes from 1.5 to 8 kg of grain, or up to 9 kg with a top plate. When it is time to sparge, you fit a lifting handle to the basket and lift it out of the wort. A 45-degree twist lets the legs rest on the support ring so that the basket drains while you sparge over the top. A sparge water heater is available separately to heat sparge water to the right temperature.

Frequently asked questions about the Grainfather G30v3

How much grain can I use in the Grainfather G30v3?

The grain basket takes from 1.5 to 8 kg of grain, or up to 9 kg with a top plate. Leaving some headroom below the maximum gives better recirculation and sparging.

Is the counterflow chiller included?

Yes. The counterflow chiller and tap fittings are included. The chiller cools the wort and transfers it to the fermenter in a single step in about 10 minutes.

Can I brew indoors with the G30v3?

Yes, the Grainfather is electric and designed for indoor use. Boiling produces a lot of steam, so without a powerful extractor we recommend the steam condenser for the Grainfather G30.

What is new in the G30v3 compared with the G30v2?

The G30v3 has a new perforated grain basket that makes the top plate and overflow pipe unnecessary, and an automatic reset switch for the thermal fuse. The auto reset switch can also be fitted to the G30v2.

What mash temperature should I use?

A typical mash temperature is 63–68 °C. A lower temperature gives a drier, lighter beer, and a higher temperature a sweeter, fuller beer. With PID control and step mashing, the G30v3 holds the temperature you set.
