Description

Steam Condenser for Grainfather G30

New version of our popular steam condenser for Grainfather G30. Now with custom-fitted tri-clamp components for easier assembly and fewer parts to disassemble for quicker cleaning.

A steam condenser is a relatively inexpensive and simple tool that eliminates the problem of a brewing room full of steam, and a great alternative to an exhaust system with a fan and lots of pipes hanging from the ceiling. Condensation of steam is also common practice in most breweries.

The steam condenser is designed so that cold water is sprayed using a full cone nozzle at a 30-degree angle directly onto the steam to condense it into water, which then flows out the bottom of the condenser, either into a drain or a bucket. The unit uses approximately 0.6 liters per minute at 4 bar water pressure.

When the steam condenses inside the unit, the steam contracts and creates a vacuum inside the brewing machine, sucking the steam into the unit. This ensures that all steam and DMS are evacuated.

Use with other brewing systems:

It is also possible to purchase the steam condenser without a lid, so you can use it with regular brew kettles or other brewing machines. If you need a lid with a 1.5" tri-clamp connection, check out our weldless 1.5" TC bulkhead from Ss Brewtech.

If you do not have a lid that allows for the use of a bulkhead (for example, a glass lid), you can also install the bulkhead on the side of the kettle.

The new lid for Speidel, "Fermentation Kit Speidel Braumeister", comes with a hole for an airlock and is perfect for a tri-clamp bulkhead.

Instructions:

  1. We recommend putting on the condenser AFTER the foam during the hot break has settled. Feel free to use anti-foam, a defoaming agent.
  2. Reduce the power on the Grainfather. Mount the condenser on the Grainfather, and secure it with its locking clamps. One clamp on the opposite side of the condenser's outlet is sufficient. Mount the condenser on the Grainfather, and secure it with its locking clamps. One clamp on the opposite side of the condenser's outlet is sufficient.
    • For manual control: Press and hold the "Heat" button on the control box (Connect Control Box) for approximately 5 seconds until the menu for adjusting power appears ("Power Control Mode"). We recommend setting the power to 50%, and then increasing it as needed. 50% power still provides a nice rolling boil, while also saving energy.
    • For app control: In the app, select Equipment -> Brewing, and activate Boil Power Control. You can then adjust the power from the control box as with manual control above, while still being able to use the app for the rest of the brewing process.
  3. Connect a cold water hose to the top of the condenser. See "water connection" below.
  4. Place a bucket under the outlet, or thread a 20mm silicone hose over the outside of the 20mm hose barb at the bottom to direct the water to a drain. It is important that the water can flow freely downwards so that no resistance is created inside the condenser. The open end of the hose must also never be submerged in water.
  5. To add hops and other ingredients along the way, simply open the clamp, flip up the lid, and add what you want.

By boiling at reduced power, evaporation will also be reduced proportionally. You should therefore compensate for lower evaporation with a reduced amount of sparge water. With 28 liters of boil volume, at 50% power you will achieve 1.4 liters of evaporation instead of 2.8 liters at approximately 10% evaporation per hour as is normal.

Water connection:

The steam condenser comes with a 1/2" NPT connection at the top, so you are free to choose what you want to use to connect water. You can attach, for example, a hose barb or Gardena quick connector.
