Frequently asked questions about the Grainfather Sparge Water Heater
How long does it take to heat the sparge water?
The heater warms up to 25 litres in 50 minutes. If you start when you begin mashing, the sparge water is ready when the mash is done.
What temperature should the sparge water be?
We recommend 75–78 °C. Do not go above 80 °C, as sparge water that is too hot can extract tannins from the grain husks.
Does it only work with Grainfather?
No. It is a stand-alone water heater with a ball valve and can be used with most brewing systems and setups where you need hot sparge water.
Does it hold the temperature?
Yes. Once the water has reached the set temperature, the heater holds it until you change the setting or switch it off.
