Description

HopHaze 1 kg – hop-based product for stable haze in beer

HopHaze from BarthHaas is designed to give an even and stable haze in beer. It is an aqueous formulation of 100% hop-derived ingredients, produced from a CO2 extract of hops. HopHaze does not significantly affect flavour and aroma and imparts no sensory bitterness. It is added after fermentation and filtration, before the bright beer tank or packaging, and has a long shelf life. The container holds 1 kg.

Please note: This product is only available in Norway.

Features

  • Adds haze without significantly changing flavour and aroma
  • No sensory bitterness
  • Amber to brown, free-flowing liquid
  • Standard concentration: 10.0 ± 0.5% hop resin components
  • pH 10.0–11.5

How to use HopHaze

The amount of haze depends on how much HopHaze you add. A good starting point is 500 mg per litre of beer, or 177 mg (174 µl) per 355 ml bottle. Then adjust to the haze you want. At the starting dose, 1 kg treats roughly 20 hl of beer.

  • Add after fermentation and after filtration
  • Ensure good mixing, for example by dosing on the suction side of a centrifugal pump
  • Dose some distance away from CO2 addition points, as a local drop in pH causes losses of HopHaze
  • If dilution is needed, use demineralised water adjusted to pH 10–11 with KOH. Do not use sodium bases such as caustic soda, as they form poorly soluble salts with hop acids.

Storage

Store closed and out of direct sunlight at 5–25 °C, and do not allow to freeze. Use within 24 months of production. Opened containers should be used within a few days.
