Description
Hydrometer with Test Jar - SG 0.990-1.160
The hydrometer with test jar is a simple and useful starter kit for those brewing beer, cider, wine, mead, or other fermented beverages. The hydrometer is used to measure the specific gravity of wort, must, or mead, allowing you to monitor fermentation and calculate the approximate alcohol percentage.
The kit includes a triple scale hydrometer with a measuring range of 0.990–1.160 SG, 0–35 Brix, and 0–20% potential alcohol. The 250 ml test jar makes it easy to take a sample and read the hydrometer correctly.
Also included is a self-adhesive thermometer to attach to the fermenter. During active fermentation, the temperature in the vessel can be higher than room temperature, and the thermometer makes it easier to ensure that the fermentation stays within the correct temperature range.

Frequently asked questions about the hydrometer with test jar
How do I take a reading?
Fill the test jar with a sample of wort or beer, lower the hydrometer into it and read the scale where the liquid surface crosses it. Cool the sample to room temperature before measuring.
How do I know fermentation is finished?
Fermentation is finished when the hydrometer shows the same reading 2–3 days in a row.
How do I calculate the alcohol content?
Measure OG before fermentation and FG afterwards. The alcohol content is (OG − FG) × 131.25, for example (1.050 − 1.010) × 131.25 = 5.25 %. The hydrometer also has its own potential alcohol scale.
Can I use the hydrometer for wine and mead?
Yes. The range runs from 0.990 to 1.160 SG, so it also covers sweet must and high-gravity mead.
