Description
Irish Stout 20L Fresh Wort Kit
With this fresh wort kit you can enjoy the authentic taste of a classic Irish Dry Stout, brewed by Austmann Bryggeri and ready to ferment at home. Expect a full-bodied, dark stout with flavours of roasted malt, coffee and a hint of chocolate, balanced by bitterness from Magnum hops.
The malt base consists of Pale Ale Malt, Flaked Barley, Roasted Barley Malt and Brown Malt, which give the beer a deep and complex character. Fermented with Nottingham Ale from Lallemand, it has a clean, dry finish that makes this stout very easy to drink.
Inspired by Guinness – want the velvety, creamy head that made Guinness famous? Use Beer Gas when dispensing from a keg to get the right texture. Beer Gas is available in handy cartridges at Brewshop. Read more here.

Fresh, professionally brewed wort for an Irish Dry Stout in the Guinness style
Our Fresh Wort Kits contain 20 litres of water-adjusted wort, professionally brewed by Austmann Bryggeri in Trondheim, Norway. The wort is filled into a Bag-in-Box with a high-tech filling machine, and the bag is then flushed with nitrogen to keep oxygen in the wort to a minimum. The wort is 100% ready to use, with fining agent and yeast nutrient added during the boil. Do not top up with water – simply pitch the yeast and follow the instructions.
Frequently asked questions about Irish Stout
How do I brew Irish Stout?
Sanitise the fermenter, pour in the 20 litres of finished wort and add the yeast that comes with the kit (1 x Nottingham Ale). Do not add water. Ferment for 14 days at 20 °C, then bottle or keg the beer.
How much beer does it make, and how strong is it?
A 20L Fresh Wort Kit makes roughly 60 bottles of 0.33 L or 40 bottles of 0.5 L. The recipe gives approx. 4.5% ABV.
How do I get the creamy head like on Guinness?
Dispense the beer from a keg using Beer Gas, a mix of nitrogen and CO2. It gives the velvety, creamy head that Irish Stout is known for.
What is the difference between a fresh wort kit and an extract kit?
A Fresh Wort Kit is 20 litres of fully brewed, professionally water-adjusted wort, not a semi-finished product. It is simpler and quicker than an extract kit, and the beer turns out much better. If you are considering an extract kit, try a fresh wort kit instead.
