Description
ISO 4801 alcoholmeter 30–40% vol – Alla France
Precision alcoholmeter from the French manufacturer Alla France for measuring alcohol content in the 30–40% vol range. It is made to the international standard ISO 4801 for glass alcoholmeters, has 0.1% vol graduations and comes with a Certificate of Conformity.
An alcoholmeter measures the density of a mixture of water and ethanol and shows the alcohol content directly in % vol. It only gives a correct reading in pure mixtures of water and alcohol, without sugar or extract, and at the calibration temperature of 20 °C. The narrow range gives high precision around typical spirit strengths.

Frequently asked questions about the ISO 4801 alcoholmeter 30–40% vol
Can I measure the alcohol in beer or wine with this alcoholmeter?
No. The alcoholmeter only reads correctly in pure mixtures of water and alcohol. Sugar and extract in beer and wine give a false reading. For beer and wine, measure OG and FG with a hydrometer and calculate the alcohol: (OG − FG) × 131.25.
At what temperature should I measure?
The alcoholmeter is calibrated at 20 °C. Measure at this temperature to get a correct reading.
How accurate is the alcoholmeter?
The graduation is 0.1% vol, and the accuracy is ± 0.1% vol within the 30–40% vol range.
Are there alcoholmeters for other strengths?
Yes. The ISO 4801 series from Alla France covers several ranges, for example 20–30% and 40–50% vol.
