Frequently asked questions about the 20–30% vol alcoholmeter
Can I measure the alcohol in beer or wine with it?
No. An alcoholmeter only reads correctly in pure mixtures of ethanol and water. Sugar and other substances in beer and wine give a false reading. For beer, use a hydrometer and calculate the alcohol from OG and FG.
At what temperature should I measure?
The alcoholmeter is calibrated at 20 °C. If you measure at a different temperature, the reading must be corrected.
How accurate is it?
It has a division of 0.1% vol and an accuracy of ±0.1% vol.
