Description
Thermo hydrometer with temperature correction – from Alla France
A hydrometer with a built-in thermometer and a temperature correction scale. You read the specific gravity (SG) and the temperature at the same time and correct the reading directly on the scale. It gives simple, accurate readings between 10 °C and 30 °C without tables or a calculator.
The hydrometer reads from 0.980 to 1.110 SG, covering both original gravity (OG) and final gravity (FG) for beer, cider and wine.
Specifications
- Range: 0.980–1.110 SG
- Built-in thermometer with correction scale
- Correction between 10 °C and 30 °C
- Length: 29 cm
- Manufacturer: Alla France
How to use the hydrometer
- Fill a test jar with a sample of wort or beer.
- Lower the hydrometer gently so that it floats freely.
- Read the SG at the liquid surface and the temperature on the thermometer.
- Correct the reading using the temperature correction scale.
Frequently asked questions about the thermo hydrometer
Why does a hydrometer reading need temperature correction?
Liquid expands as it gets warmer, which affects the reading. The correction scale gives you the right gravity even when the sample is not at the temperature the hydrometer is calibrated for.
Can I measure alcohol content with the hydrometer?
Yes, indirectly. Measure the original gravity before fermentation and the final gravity afterwards. The difference is used to calculate the alcohol content.
What else do I need?
A test jar tall enough for the 29 cm hydrometer to float freely.
