What gap should I start with?

For Monster Mills, a starting gap between 0.040" (1 mm) and 0.045" (1.14 mm) is recommended. Then adjust based on the result: too coarse a crush leaves whole kernels and poor efficiency, and too fine a crush can give a stuck mash.

How do I use the feeler gauge?

Choose the blade or combination of blades that gives the thickness you want and slide it between the rollers. Adjust the gap until the blade goes in with slight resistance, and check at both ends of the rollers.

Why crush the malt yourself?

Crushed malt starts to oxidise and lose flavour and aroma. With your own mill you control the crush and get freshly crushed malt on brew day.
