Description
Brewing Sugar – 100% dextrose 2 kg for carbonating beer
Brewing Sugar is pure dextrose (glucose) for natural carbonation of beer in bottles or kegs. Dextrose is 100% fermentable and the most widely used sugar for carbonation. Compared with ordinary table sugar, dextrose gives a cleaner fermentation and flavour and leaves no residual sweetness.
The 2 kg bag has a zip-lock and is easy to store between brews.
Uses
- Carbonating beer in bottles or kegs with a priming solution
- Adding to the wort to raise the alcohol content without adding body
- An ingredient in hard seltzer
Product information
- Ingredients: dextrose monohydrate
- Quantity: 2 kg
- Packaging: zip-lock bag
- Storage: dry and at room temperature, ideally about 20 °C
Tip
For priming solution, the borosilicate glass bottle with blue cap is handy. It can be boiled, so the priming solution can be sterilised in the bottle. The bottle can also be used for rehydrating dry yeast.
Frequently asked questions about dextrose (Brewing Sugar)
Why use dextrose instead of ordinary sugar?
Dextrose is 100% fermentable and gives a cleaner fermentation and flavour than table sugar. It leaves no residual sweetness.
How do I carbonate with dextrose?
Dissolve the dextrose in a little water and bring it to the boil to make a priming solution. Cool it, gently mix it into the beer and fill bottles or kegs. The amount depends on the beer style and desired carbonation level and is usually given in the recipe or brewing instructions.
Can I use dextrose to raise the alcohol content?
Yes, but pure sugar adds only alcohol and no body. Too much sugar can make the beer thin and "boozy". If you want both alcohol and body, spray malt is a better choice.
How should I store dextrose?
Dry and at room temperature, ideally around 20 °C. Close the zip-lock bag tightly after use.
