Description
Citra Spectrum 1 kg – liquid hops for dry hopping
Spectrum from BarthHaas is a liquid hop product developed for dry hopping. It is made from 100% hops, with no additives, solvents or carriers, and disperses completely in cold beer. This gives higher yield, more beer to sell and less cleaning. This version is made from Citra and comes in a 1 kg container.
Please note: This product is only available in Norway.
Benefits
- 100% hops, made from hop pellets through specific extractions
- Replaces pellets at a ratio of 1:5 to 1:8 by weight, so 100 g of Spectrum can replace up to 800 g of T90 pellets
- Less hop material in the tank means less beer loss and higher yield
- Stable, consistent hop flavour from batch to batch
How to use Spectrum
- Let the product reach room temperature before use. A water bath of up to 40 °C can be used. Spectrum becomes more flowable but does not melt.
- Weigh out the amount. Use 1:5 to 1:8 (Spectrum to pellets, by weight), but no more than 1 g of Spectrum per litre of beer.
- Disperse Spectrum in 5–10 times the amount of cold or lukewarm deaerated water or wort and stir thoroughly. Rinse the container into the mix if needed.
- Flush the tank or dosing system with CO2 to limit air ingress.
- Add the mix to the tank as you would with pellets.
For most beer styles, the best dosing point is secondary fermentation, 1–2 °Plato above terminal gravity. When using Spectrum for the first time, or when pellet rates exceed 8 g per litre, BarthHaas recommends replacing no more than 80% of the pellet charge with Spectrum.
Technical data
- Producer: BarthHaas
- Hop variety: Citra

Storage
Store Spectrum at 2–15 °C. Avoid lower temperatures, as the product may crystallise and become harder to disperse. Spectrum is best used within 12 months of processing. An opened container should be blanketed with inert gas, resealed and used within one month.
Frequently asked questions about Citra Spectrum
How many pellets does Spectrum replace?
BarthHaas states a ratio of 1:5 to 1:8 by weight. 100 g of Spectrum can replace up to 800 g of T90 pellets. The higher the total hop dose, the less Spectrum is needed.
Can Spectrum be stored in the freezer?
No. Unlike hop pellets, Spectrum should be stored at 2–15 °C. Colder storage can cause crystals that make the product hard to disperse.
Can Spectrum add bitterness?
Spectrum contains no iso-alpha acids, but like pellets it contains unisomerised alpha acids. High doses or late dosing can therefore increase bitterness, particularly in hazy beers.
When should I add Spectrum?
Ideally in secondary fermentation, 1–2 °Plato above terminal gravity. Spectrum can also be dosed during active fermentation, which gives more fruity aromas.
