To use oak chips when brewing beer, they must first be disinfected by, for example, soaking them in spirits or boiling them in water for a few minutes. Then you can add the chips to your fermenter. You can also add the chips to your barrel after the beer has finished fermenting, to give it an oak tone. It is important to remember that oak notes can be very potent, so it might be a good idea to start with only a small amount of chips and gradually increase the amount to find the right balance for your beer. The more chips, the shorter contact time is needed.
