Description
The use of oak during the production of beer or wine will alter the taste, aroma, and color stability.
2 simple ways to add these properties:
Maturation in oak barrels. To benefit from the specific advantages, choose a barrel without a protective layer on the inside. Most decorative barrels have a paraffin layer and are mostly used for decoration.
Using oak cubes/chips has several additional advantages. They don't take up space and are easy to add. Thanks to the large contact surface, you don't need to add much.
Tips:
Place oak cubes/chips in a hop bag for easy removal after use.
For a special taste: try sherry and whisky chips.
How many chips should you use and how long to mature in the barrel? The more cubes/chips you add, the shorter the contact time. For oak barrels, the maturation time depends on how many times the barrel has already been used.
