Description
Hogna Brygg Rødskjegg Imperial Red Ale all-grain beer kit – an award-winning red ale
Together with Hogna Brygg in Midtre Gauldal, Norway, we have created an all-grain beer kit for homebrewers who want to brew Rødskjegg, an Imperial Red Ale. Rødskjegg was named Beer of the Year by Det Norske Måltid in January 2018.
Large amounts of American hops are balanced by a robust malt body, so you get both pronounced malt and pronounced hops in the same beer.
The Det Norske Måltid jury described the winner as balanced, with good hop character, distinct bitterness and a strong head, a fine colour, slightly hazy and with a complex aroma of coffee, chocolate, caramel and clear malt character with well-integrated hops.

Frequently asked questions about the Hogna Brygg Rødskjegg all-grain beer kit
What kind of beer is Rødskjegg?
An Imperial Red Ale from Hogna Brygg: a strong, reddish-brown beer at 7.6% with 70 IBU, where plenty of American hops are balanced by a full malt body with notes of caramel, chocolate and coffee.
Which yeast is included, and how is the beer fermented?
The kit includes two packs of SafAle US-05. The recipe calls for 14 days at 18 °C.
Is the kit suitable for beginners?
The kit assumes you brew all-grain, meaning you mash and boil yourself with brewing equipment. With 8.5 kg of malt, check that your brewing system can hold the grain bill.
Why is the malt unmilled?
Once malt is milled, it starts to oxidise and lose flavour and aroma. Brewshop therefore stores the malt unmilled and only mills it when you choose milled malt at checkout. With your own grain mill, you can mill the malt just before brewing.
