Lallemand Essential Series 02 Lager 500 g – neutral lager yeast for breweries

Essential Series 02 Lager is a Saccharomyces pastorianus strain selected from the Lallemand Yeast Culture Collection. It is developed for traditional lager beers and gives a clean, neutral aroma with classic lager character. With high attenuation, good flocculation and alcohol tolerance up to 10%, it delivers clear and balanced flavour, batch after batch. The neutral profile makes the yeast versatile, from pilsner and helles to international lagers.

How to use the yeast

Lallemand recommends sprinkling the yeast evenly over the wort while the fermenter is being filled. For Essential 02 Lager there is no significant difference between direct pitching and rehydration. Fermentation is vigorous and can be complete in 9 days at 12 °C. Store the yeast dry below 4 °C. An opened pack must be re-closed, stored dry below 4 °C and used within 3 days.

How much yeast do I need?

Lallemand recommends 100–200 g per hectolitre of wort. A 500 g pack therefore covers 250–500 litres, depending on OG and fermentation temperature.

What temperature should the yeast ferment at?

The fermentation range is 10–15 °C. At 12 °C fermentation can be complete in 9 days.

Does the yeast need to be rehydrated?

No. Lallemand recommends pitching the yeast directly onto the wort. For this strain there is no significant difference between direct pitching and rehydration.

Which beer styles is the yeast suited to?

Traditional lagers such as pilsner and helles, and international lagers where you want a clean, neutral profile.
