Frequently asked questions about the Grifo manual fruit crusher
Why crush the fruit before pressing?
Whole apples give little juice in the press. Once the fruit is crushed to pulp, you get much more juice from the same amount of fruit.
Do I need a fruit press as well?
Yes. The crusher breaks up the fruit, and the fruit press squeezes out the juice. They are used together.
What do I do with the juice before fermentation?
Pasteurize the juice at 80–85°C, or add Campden and Sorbistat and wait at least 24 hours before adding the yeast. Pectinase improves the yield.
