Description

Nugget hop pellets 100 g – American high-alpha bittering hop

Nugget is a bittering hop from the USA with high alpha acids and a mild, spicy flavour and aroma. It gives efficient bitterness and is often used as a base hop in beers where other varieties provide the aroma.

Nugget is a daughter of Brewers Gold. The variety yields well and grows vigorously in almost all regions.

Aroma and flavour

  • Tea, camomile, ginger and hay
  • Lemon and pineapple
  • Lychee and plum
  • Elderflower and geranium

How to use Nugget

Nugget is used mainly as a bittering hop at the start of the boil. Its high alpha acids mean you need little hop to reach the target IBU. Suits beers that need clean, efficient bitterness, such as IPA and pale ale.

Technical data

  • Origin: USA
  • Pack size: 100 g
  • Alpha acids, typical for the variety: 9–16%
  • Beta acids, typical: 3–6%
  • Total oil: 0.9–1.8 ml/100 g
  • Myrcene (share of total oil): 27–50%

Typical values for the variety are from BarthHaas. Values vary from year to year. The alpha acid for the lot you receive is stated in the product title. Use that figure when calculating bitterness.

Storage and quality

The hops are vacuum packed and stored in a freezer room at -18 °C, so the quality keeps for several years. We focus on offering hops from the last two harvests, but older hops can be just as good as long as they have been stored correctly. At home, keep the hops cold, dark and airtight, preferably in the freezer. Read more about shelf life and storage of hops in the article from Yakima Valley Hops (PDF).
