Project Brew Wort Chiller - Counterflow Chiller for Beer

A compact, yet very efficient and flexible high-quality copper counterflow chiller, which conducts heat significantly better than stainless steel. The chiller is perfect for both small and large batches (20-200 litres), and cools the wort as you pump it over to the fermentation tank.

Internally, the copper pipe of the counterflow chiller features a "Spiral Groove Design", and although the chiller's outer pipe is only 3.9 meters long, the internal pipe measures a full 5.5 meters. The spiral-shaped internal pipe increases internal turbulence/movement and surface area, ensuring that the wort cools significantly faster than with conventional counterflow chillers. The fastest possible cooling of the wort after boiling is critical to reducing the risk of DMS, in addition to a more effective cold break reducing unwanted proteins and particles in the beer.

Supplied with welded-on 1/2" BSP(P) connections for mounting hose nipples, tri-clamp, or Gardena. BSP(P) threads with parallel threads are used, as this ensures better sealing and lower risk of leakage than with NPT thread type.

Cooling Efficiency:

Testing of the counterflow chiller was performed with tap water at 9°C and a RipTide pump.

  • 50 liters from 100°C to 20°C takes approx. 5 minutes
  • 50 liters from 100°C to 13°C takes approx. 8 minutes

Tip: The larger the hoses you have between your brewing system, pump, and counterflow chiller, the faster it will go. At low flow rates, whether caused by a slow pump or hoses with a small internal diameter, you must limit the water flow rate to avoid over-chilling, as the chiller is very efficient.

Connect water to the inward-pointing fittings. Wort and water should be connected counterflow for optimal efficiency (wort in and water out).

Cleaning: The inner pipe for wort is cleaned by pumping PBW through it, and then rinsed with clean water. Before use, recirculate boiling wort for a few minutes to disinfect the inside of the chiller.
