Plastic test jar, or measuring cylinder, for taking hydrometer readings. It holds 100 ml, is 26.5 cm tall and 3 cm in diameter. Fill it with a sample of wort or beer and let the hydrometer float freely while you take the reading. The jar has no volume graduations. It is made by Enolandia in Italy.

Frequently asked questions about the hydrometer test jar

Why use a test jar instead of measuring in the fermenter?

You take out a small sample and measure it separately. That way the hydrometer never goes into the fermenter, and you can discard the sample afterwards.

At what temperature should I take the reading?

A standard hydrometer is read at 20 °C. Cool the sample to room temperature before measuring, or correct for temperature.

Is the jar graduated?

No. The jar has no volume markings and is made for hydrometer readings only.
