Description
Torrefied Wheat 100 g from Thomas Fawcett – puffed wheat for head and body
Torrefied Wheat from Thomas Fawcett & Sons is unmalted wheat that has been heat treated until the starch gelatinises and the grain "pops". It adds no malt flavour, but contributes starch and mouthfeel, and gives good head retention and lacing in ales. Brewshop is the Norwegian distributor for Thomas Fawcett & Sons.

If you want a ready-mixed grist for a recipe, order each malt in whole 100 g units and write the blend in the comment field at checkout, for example "Malt blend: 5.4 kg pale ale malt, 270 g Cara Blond".
Frequently asked questions about Torrefied Wheat
What is Torrefied Wheat used for?
It improves head retention, lacing and mouthfeel in ales without adding malt flavour.
How much Torrefied Wheat can I use?
Thomas Fawcett states up to 10% of the grist in ales.
Does Torrefied Wheat need to be mashed?
Yes. The wheat is unmalted and has no enzymes of its own, so it is mashed together with a base malt that converts the starch into sugar.
Can I get the malt crushed?
Yes. Choose crushed malt when you order. Brewshop stores the malt uncrushed and only crushes it when you order, because crushed malt starts to lose flavour and aroma.
