A refractometer is an optical tool that measures the SG (specific gravity) of the wort using just a few drops. It is especially useful when you need several readings during the brew day. With a hydrometer you have to sacrifice much more liquid.
This version has a built-in LED light that makes the scale easier to read, especially in poorly lit rooms. The refractometer has ATC (automatic temperature compensation). The recommended range is 10–30 °C, and a few drops of wort cool down quickly.

Frequently asked questions about the refractometer with LED light
Can I measure FG with a refractometer?
Not directly. Once fermentation has started, the alcohol bends the light differently and the reading will be wrong. Use a hydrometer once fermentation is under way.
What is the benefit of the LED light?
The LED light illuminates the scale, so you can read the refractometer even in dim rooms. You do not need to hold it up to a light source.
When is the refractometer most useful?
On brew day, for example when you measure the pre-boil gravity after sparging and the OG after the boil. You only need a few drops of wort.
How do I calibrate the refractometer?
Place a few drops of clean water on the prism and adjust the scale to 1.000 with the supplied screwdriver.
