WLP550 Belgian Ale Yeast – liquid yeast for saison, witbier and blonde

WLP550 from White Labs is a very expressive Belgian ale yeast. It produces phenolic flavours and aromas reminiscent of clove, allspice and peppercorn, with a soft fruitiness in the background. The yeast has medium to high alcohol tolerance and suits many classic Belgian styles, such as saison, witbier, blonde and Belgian brown ale.

PurePitch Next Generation

PurePitch Next Generation contains twice as much yeast in a convenient 70 ml pack. It gives a consistent pitch of 7.5 million cells per ml and is recommended for 20 litres of standard ale with an OG below 1.074 and a temperature above 16 °C, without a yeast starter.

Easy to use: twist off the top and pitch the yeast.

Which beers is WLP550 suited for?

It suits saison, witbier, Belgian blonde and Belgian brown ale. White Labs also suggests it for tripel, dubbel and Belgian dark strong ale.

What temperature should WLP550 ferment at?

The ideal fermentation temperature is 20–26 °C. At the warm end of the range, the clove and pepper spice becomes more pronounced.

What is the difference between WLP550 and WLP500?

WLP550 has a phenolic, spicy profile with less fruitiness than WLP500 Monastery Ale Yeast.

Is one pack enough for a strong Belgian beer?

One pack is recommended for 20 litres of standard ale with an OG below 1.074. A stronger beer needs more yeast, for example two packs or a yeast starter.
