Description
LITE Lager – all-grain kit for a light, lower-calorie lager
LITE is a refreshing lager with good balance, mouthfeel and bitterness. The malt base is traditional, with pilsner malt and a little carapils, and the beer is hopped with the classic noble hop Saaz. The kit is for all-grain brewers who want a light Czech-style pils with fewer calories than regular beer.
The beer is fermented with LalBrew NovaLager from Lallemand at normal ale temperature. During fermentation the enzyme amyloglucosidase ("amigase") is added, converting all starch into fermentable sugar. That is why a modest 4 kg malt bill gives a full-flavoured beer at 5.1%. The low malt quantity also gives fewer calories than regular beer, approx. 35 kcal per dl.

Frequently asked questions about the LITE Lager all-grain kit
How can the beer reach 5.1% with only 4 kg of malt?
The enzyme amyloglucosidase (Ultra-Ferm) is added during fermentation and converts all starch into fermentable sugar. The beer therefore ferments out completely, to FG 1.000.
Do I need a fridge to ferment a lager?
No. LalBrew NovaLager ferments cleanly at ale temperature, and the recipe calls for 14 days at 18 °C. A pils still benefits from some cold time after fermentation.
How many calories does the beer have?
Approx. 35 kcal per dl, which is lower than regular beer because of the small amount of malt.
Why is the malt uncrushed?
Once crushed, malt starts to oxidise and lose flavour and aroma. Brewshop therefore stores malt uncrushed and only crushes it when you choose crushed malt at checkout. With your own grain mill you crush the malt just before brewing.
