Simply Brown Ale – extract kit for a classic brown ale
Simply Brown Ale is an extract kit with 1.8 kg of malt extract, made for a clean and drinkable beer. The result is a deep, classic brown ale with notes of toffee and chocolate. The beer is rich and flavourful and pairs well with food. The kit makes about 40 half-litre servings, and like all extract kits it comes with yeast.
What else you need
- 1 kg of malt extract or dextrose/sugar to reach the right volume and about 4.4 % ABV. We recommend malt extract for the best flavour.
- Sugar or carbonation drops for carbonation, which are not included
- Brewing equipment. If you don't have any yet, we recommend Startsett Basic.
How to brew
Sanitize your equipment. Mix the extract with boiled water, top up with cold water to the right volume, measure the OG and sprinkle the yeast on top. Let the beer ferment for at least two weeks and check the FG before transferring and bottling with carbonation drops. Carbonation takes at least two weeks.

An extract kit is hopped malt extract that is mixed with water. A Fresh Wort Kit is 20 litres of ready-brewed wort that you simply pour into the fermenter and add the included yeast. It is easier and quicker, and the beer is much better. If you are considering an extract kit, try a Fresh Wort Kit instead.
