Hops for brewing – hop pellets, Cryo Hops and hop oil
Hops give beer its bitterness, flavour and aroma. Here you will find more than 50 hop varieties as T-90 pellets in 100 g bags from BarthHaas, Hopsteiner, Yakima Chief and NZ Hops, concentrated Cryo Hops in 25 g, and HopBurst hop oil. Alpha acid and harvest year are in the product name. All hops are vacuum-packed and stored in a freezer room at -18 °C.
How to choose hops
- Bittering hops have a high alpha acid content and go in early in the boil. Magnum (14.1%) gives clean bitterness with a small amount of hops.
- Aroma hops go in late in the boil, in the whirlpool or as a dry hop. Classic European varieties such as Saaz (3.5%) and Hallertau Mittelfrüh suit pilsner and lager.
- Modern aroma varieties such as Citra, Mosaic and Cascade bring citrus and tropical fruit to IPA and pale ale. Citra has enough alpha acid to be used for both bitterness and aroma.
- Format: Choose standard pellets for most brews, Cryo Hops when you want lots of aroma with little vegetal matter, and hop oil when you want to dry hop without hop debris.

Hop pellets and hop extract
Hop pellets are hop cones milled to a powder and pressed back together. Hop extract and hop oil are made by extracting the oils and resins, for example with CO2. Extract is stable and concentrated, easy to dose and leaves less residue, so you lose less beer. Many brewers still prefer the flavour from pellets, so it is worth trying both.
Frequently asked questions about hops
How long do hop pellets keep?
Hop pellets normally keep for five years from the production date. Hops grown in 2024 usually have a 2025 production date and keep until 2030, provided they are stored correctly.
How should I store hops?
Cold, dark and away from air. Keep unopened hops in the freezer and seal opened bags tightly, ideally vacuum-sealed. Our hops are kept vacuum-packed in a freezer room at -18 °C.
What does the percentage in the product name mean?
It is the alpha acid content of that particular lot. Alpha acid determines how much bitterness the hop gives, so use the figure when you calculate IBU in your recipe. The year is the harvest year.
Do you sell hops in larger packs?
Yes. For breweries and larger users, hop pellets come in 5 kg packs under hops 5 kg. The professional range is only available in Norway.
