Frequently asked questions about Fermentis
What is the difference between SafAle and SafLager?
SafAle is top-fermenting ale yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) that ferments at 18–26 °C. SafLager is bottom-fermenting lager yeast (Saccharomyces pastorianus) that ferments at 12–18 °C and gives cleaner, more lager-like beer.
How much Fermentis yeast do I need for 20 litres?
Fermentis recommends 50–80 g per 100 litres for SafAle US-05 and S-04, so one 11.5 g sachet covers about 15–23 litres.
Which Fermentis yeast is best for NEIPA?
SafAle K-97 and S-33 are both described as well suited to New England IPA. K-97 gives a floral, fruity character, and S-33 adds body and mouthfeel.
Are Fermentis and SafAle the same thing?
Fermentis is the brand and producer. SafAle, SafLager, SafCider and SafBrew are its product ranges.
